Missing Roman Catholic priest found dead
Church plunged in mourning after body found in mortuary

Roman Catholic priest Father Regis Chikuni (58), reported missing some days ago, has been found dead.
The news of his shock death was announced Wednesday by the Archdiocese of Harare secretary Father Ephraim Murwira.
The senior priest of the Archdiocese of Harare went missing some days ago, prompting the church to launch an urgent public appeal for information on his whereabouts.
In a notice dated 5 September 2026 read to parishioners during Sunday Mass, the Archdiocese said it is concerned about his whereabouts and wellbeing.
On behalf of His Grace, Archbishop Robert C. Ndlovu, Archbishop’s Secretary Fr Ephraim Murwira wrote, in part:
“On behalf of His Grace, Archbishop Robert C. Ndlovu, we wish to inform all Priests, Religious and the Lay Faithful of the Archdiocese of Harare that one of our senior priests, Fr Regis Chikuni, is currently unaccounted for, and we are concerned about his whereabouts and wellbeing.
“We therefore humbly appeal to anyone who may have seen him recently or who may have any information that could assist in establishing his whereabouts to kindly contact the Archbishop’s Office.”
“As a family of faith, let us unite in earnest prayer, asking the Lord, through His loving providence and protection, to guide us in finding Fr Regis safe and sound. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, intercede for him and keep him under her maternal protection.”
But on Wednesday, the church sadly announced the senior priest’s death.
