By Staff Reporter
Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, has died in Zanzibar, where he had been receiving treatment for a heart condition.
The death of the First Gentleman was announced by Tanzania’s Vice-president Deogratius Ndejembi, who laid tributes following the President’s loss.
The Tanzanian leader buried her husband at a family residence in Kizimkazi, a village on the country’s semi-autonomous island of Zanzibar, on Monday evening.
Ameir was an agricultural academic who largely kept a low public profile.
He became Tanzania’s first First Gentleman after President Samia took office in 2021.
