PSL opens probe into Hardrock, Dynamos match debacle
Football administrator vows tough sanctions against offenders

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has opened an investigation into the chaos that forced the abandonment of the league clash between Hardrock and Dynamos at Chahwanda stadium in Kwekwe last Sunday after fans took matters into their hands following a disputed penalty that was awarded to the hosts by the match officials.
Dynamos had surged into the lead in the 20th minute courtesy of a Misheck Ngwenya own goal.
But Wilfred Madzungu converted from the spot in the 71st minute after the referee of the day, Mhaka Magare, had awarded what looked like a genuine penalty kick after adjudging that Donald Mudadi’s goal bound effort was blocked by Dynamos captain Shadreck Nyahwa using his hands.
However, some football hooligans who were housed at the Dynamos stand invaded the pitch and forced match marshals and officials to run for dear life.
Not to be outdone, some fans who occupied the stand housing Hardrock supporters also jumped in to confront their adversaries resulting in wild skirmishes on the pitch. The chaos was captured on footage that was circulated in the media.
The match was eventually called off at exactly 5.40pm.
In a statement, PSL Communications and Liaison Officer Kudzai Bare vowed strong action against those who would be found on the wrong side of the law.
“The PSL strongly condemns any acts of misconduct at our events and those found guilty will face the full extent of the prescribed penalties,” said Bare.
“The PSL regrets any inconveniences caused to its members, stakeholders and partners.”
Bare said the football administrator was now awaiting reports from the match officials for determination according to the PSL rules and regulations.
“Both clubs will also be requested to submit written reports on the events that transpired,” she added.
The PSL is keen to present a positive image of the domestic game that has largely been struggling to attract sponsors.
This is the first such incident this season.
