As Highlanders clinch second victory in 11 attempts
By Auther Chimbgwa
High-flying Caps United beat Dynamos by 2-1 to reclaim top spot on the league table in an exciting Castle Lager Premier Soccer league Match Day 11 encounter played before a bumper crowd at Rufaro stadium on Sunday.
Forward Ishmael Wadi capitalised on inept marking after a corner in the 14th minute to draw first blood for the Green Machine before DeMbare’s Jairos Kasondo restored parity from the spot early in the second half.
But Kudzai Chigwida settled the match as a contest deep in additional time through a penalty after a Dynamos player was adjudged to have handled inside the box by the referee of the day Brighton Chimene.
The Green Machine are now on 25 points, one ahead of second placed Hardrock.
In another match played same day, Highlanders recorded their second victory in 11 attempts when they beat Triangle by 1-0 at Barbourfields stadium.
In Saturday’s matches, Hardrock continued with their fine form when they walloped TelOne 3-0 at Ascot stadium in Gweru in a Midlands derby.
Norman Mapeza failed to beat his former team FC Platinum when he led champions Scottland to an uninspiring nil-all draw at Mandava stadium in Zvishavane.
Elsewhere, Manica Diamonds did themselves a world of good when they thrashed AGAMA by 3-1 at Sakubva stadium in Mutare. The victory was the first win for the miners in 11 attempts so far this season.
Manica Diamonds are now second from bottom, replacing AGAMA who now languish at the foot of the league table.
FC Hunters drew 1-all with unbeaten Ngezi Platinum Stars at the Heart stadium in Waterfalls, Harare. Ngezi remain third on the league table with 21 points.
MWOS floored Chicken Inn by 1-0 at Ngoni stadium in Norton while Simba Bhora beat ZPC Kariba by 2-1 at Wadzanayi stadium in Shamva.
Bulawayo Chiefs and Herentals College were involved in a 2-all stalemate at Barbourfields stadium to complete Saturday’s goal rush.
