Derby Day: Dynamos chief rallies fans to turn up the volume against Caps United

Buoyant club boss urges against fan unrest should the team fail to get a positive result

Dynamos chairman Vincent Chawonza has urged club fans to beat their drums louder and make it uncomfortable for their opponents while also urging the Dembare faithful to accept any outcome in the team’s big derby clash against arch-rivals Caps United at Rufaro stadium this Sunday.

Speaking ahead of the high stakes encounter, Chawonza urged Dynamos fans to turn out in their numbers for the game but cautioned against any form of unrest should the results go against his team.

“I believe that we are going to get a very positive result this Sunday,” said Chawonza.

“But most importantly, the league is a marathon; so, it means that it’s a very long journey that we need to endure.

“But above all, let’s also accept different results in football.

“A win, a draw and a loss must be accepted.

“I am not saying let’s accept mediocracy as we are in that league competition to win the ultimate price.”

He, however, said the Harare derby remains a fixture that is very important to everyone in the Dynamos family as it is a match they did not want to lose since it carried the bragging rights for the City of Harare.

“…So you know that as always, we have dominated our opponents. We would like you to come and rally behind the team, fill up Rufaro stadium, sing, beat the drums so that we create a very good atmosphere and also not an easy atmosphere for our opponents.”

Last season on 18 May 2025 Dynamos drew 1-1 with Caps United, with the Glamour Boys beating their opponents by 1-0 in the reverse fixture on 28 September.

Chawonza also praised the fans for standing by his team through thick and thin in 2026.

“Let’s continue to rally behind the team…we have had a positive start in the year 2026 … we are unbeaten in nine games and we have been beaten only once,” said Chawonza.

He said that this was a positive track that the team had taken, assuring the fans that things are falling into place on and off the pitch.

“The team is new and the coach (Genesis Mangombe) is working with combinations and some areas that need improvement…we have got a mid-season window that is coming… we are going to rectify certain areas that we have already identified,” said Chawonza.

He also praised their main sponsors Sakunda Holdings and Africa Bet for rallying around the team.

Dynamos currently sits fifth on the league table.

The popular Harare side has been promised a brand new team bus by free-spending businessman Wicknell Chivayo should they win the clash against Caps United.
