Hardrock cut Caps United’s four point gap at the top of the league table to just one point when they dismantled inconsistent FC Hunters by 6-1 in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Match Day 10 played at Chahwanda stadium in Kwekwe on Saturday.
The cash-rich side did the job through double strikes by Junior Makunike, who scored in both halves and Tinashe Mashaireni in the 88th and 91st minute, with Washington Navaya and Donald Mudadi’s goals also contributing to the rout.
This was Hardrock’s biggest victory since joining Zimbabwe premiership this season, and in netting half a dozen goals, they preserved their unbeaten run at their pristine stadium while putting out a strong statement to fellow title contenders they are in it for the big prize.
It was also the biggest margin of victory recorded by any club this season.
With Caps United falling 1-0 to a gritty Bulawayo Chiefs at Rufaro stadium, it means the Harare giants, who still have 22 points, are now one point clear of Hardrock.
Both teams have played 10 games each.
This was Caps United’s second defeat of the season after losing 1-0 away to Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab stadium in March this year.
In other matches played on Saturday, AGAMA drew nil-all with FC Platinum at Wadzanayi stadium whilst ZPC Kariba were also involved in a goalless stalemate with MWOS at Nyamhunga stadium in Kariba.
In Friday’s only match, Highlanders blew away several scoring opportunities to settle for 1-1 draw with Herentals Colleges at Rufaro stadium.
