Scottland clinch their first ever Independence Cup
Knowledge Musona stunner settles champions' shortened duel against Highlanders

Scottland clinched their first ever Independence trophy after beating Highlanders 1-0 in a clash that was played in a muddy pitch at Maphisa stadium in Matobo this Saturday.
Stand-in skipper Knowledge Musona scored with two minutes remaining to allow the Zimbabwe champions to hoist the 2026 Uhuru Cup which was played with the two halves shortened to just 20 minutes apiece.
Musona pounced on an error by Highlanders captain Shepherd Mhlanga to score the only goal of the match.
The game was played in puddles of water after the rains had pounded Maphisa earlier in the day.
Although chances were at a premium judging by the fact that a minimum of 20 minutes was played either half, Highlanders acquitted themselves well with their marquee signing Isaac Ngoma showing flashes of brilliance.
They threatened in the second half of the match, but Mabviravira goalkeeper Prince Tafiremutsa stood tall between the sticks.
But it was Musona’s poacher goal which settled issues in the 38th minute in the end.
The Independence Cup came with a handsome US$ 20,000 cheque for the winners.
The triumph was Scottland’s second silverware this season and the third since gaining promotion into the Zimbabwe premier soccer league last season.
The Mabvuku outfit has won the league title, Castle Challenge Cup and lately the Independence Cup.
