Two teens held after staging dramatic mine robbery

Two 17-year-old boys have been arrested following a dramatic robbery incident at a quarry mine in Maramba where the suspects allegedly grabbed a security guard’s gun before stabbing him on the head.
Police on Saturday confirmed the incident which happened on Thursday.
“Police in Mutawatawa acted swiftly, tracked down and arrested two 17-year-old male suspects in connection with a robbery case which occurred on the same day at a quarry mine in Svisviro Village, Maramba.” police said in a statement posted on X.
“The suspects, together with two accomplices who are still at large, allegedly pounced on the mine and disarmed a security guard who was on duty, taking his shotgun before assaulting and stabbing him on the head with a knife.
“They then attacked a second complainant who had woken up to assist the first complainant, stabbing him once on the head, before tying both victims with an electric cable.
“The suspects went on to steal two iPhone 12 Pro Max mobile phones, an Apple laptop, a jackhammer, 10 black fan belts, an electric grinder, several electrical cables and USD290 in cash.”
Police said the suspects further stole approximately 1,095 litres of diesel before fleeing the scene in their getaway plateless Nissan Hard Body pickup.
The stolen diesel, electric cables, grinder, fan belts, jackhammer and the suspects’ getaway vehicle have since been recovered.
