Dynamos’ bid to roll back the good years and restore their old status as a dominant force in domestic football faces a potential hurdle in former champions FC Platinum who have ruled the fixture in head-to-head clashes played before.
Positioned second on the league table, Dynamos take on the Zvishavane side at Rufaro stadium on Sunday hoping to continue with their rich vein of form that has seen them go unbeaten in a highly promising league campaign this season.
The Genesis Mangombe coached side are a totally different package from a side that spent the entire season last year fighting relegation.
But they have to think of ways to avert the threat posed by the four-time in a row former champions who visit the once Dynamos fortress at Rufaro with tails high considering the opponents’ head-to-head clashes that they have dominated under former coach Norman Mapeza.
The two teams have clashed 19 times before with Dynamos winning twice while FC Platinum have triumphed 6 times with the remainder ending as draws.
Last season, FC Platinum triumphed 3-0 at Mandava in June before the opponents played goalless in November at Rufaro stadium.
The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Match Day 7 round of fixtures begins on Saturday when log leaders Caps United are away to FC Hunters at Rufaro stadium.
MWOS take on Simba Bhora at Ngoni while Hardrock welcome Agama at Chahwanda stadium.
Champions Scottland also travel to meet Bulawayo Chiefs at Barbourfields stadium.
Ngezi Platinum stars are at home to Triangle United at Baobab while the clash between TelOne and Chicken Inn at Ascot stadium puts a lid to Saturday’s goal rush.
On Sunday, Highlanders will be hoping to register their first win this season when they clash with ZPC Kariba at Barbourfields stadium while bottom placed Manica Diamonds host Herentals at GreenFuel Arena.
