Hardrock hold Scottland as Dynamos, Caps off to winning start

By Norman Mwale and Auther Chimbgwa

Premiership new boys Hardrock marked their debut into Zimbabwe’s topflight football with a gallant goalless draw against defending champions in an exciting Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match watched by a handsome crowd at the newly constructed Chahwanda stadium in Kwekwe on Sunday.

Scottland had the lion’s share of possession, and with a little bit of luck, could have converted one or two goals.

But that is not to take away anything away from the expensively assembled Kwekwe based side who put on a valiant performance to extend coach Kelvin Kaindu’s remarkable unbeaten run which started late last year when he was in charge of league giants Dynamos.

In other matches played on the same day, Dynamos did well by dismissing the token challenge of TelOne, beating them 2-1 in a match played at Ascot stadium midmorning.

The match was supposed to have been played on Saturday but it was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch in the aftermath of a downpour that pounded Gweru earlier on in the day, and had to be rescheduled for Sunday.

Bulawayo Chiefs held Highlanders to a 1-1 draw at Barbourfields stadium in a Bulawayo derby. Highlanders were trailing for a greater part of the clash, but found a late equaliser from the spot.

At Rufaro stadium, Caps United dismissed new boys AGAMA FC 2-1 whilst Simba Bhora beat Manica Diamonds at Gibbo stadium.

In matches played Saturday, Ngezi Platinum did themselves a world of good in dispatching FC Platinum 2-1 in a platinum derby at Baobab stadium in Mhondoro-Ngezi.

ZPC Kariba beat Triangle United 1-0 at Gibbo stadium whilst Herentals fought out a 1-1 draw with Chicken Inn at Rufaro stadium.

On Friday Hunters drew nil-all with MWOS at Rufaro stadium.

After the weekend’s fixtures Caps United, Dynamos and Ngezi Platinum Stars are joint top of the log standings after posting identical 2-1 victories over their opponents.
