A Beitbridge man has been arrested facing 20 counts of breaking into cars and stealing cell phones, laptops, cash and other valuables in just under three months, police have said.
Halbane Moyo (48) appeared before a Beitbridge magistrate on Monday facing the crimes and was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance.
In a statement, police spokesperson for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Detective Inspector Rachael Muteweri said the crimes were committed between December 2025 and 21 February 2026.
“Between December 2025 and 21 February 2026, Beitbridge community experienced a surge in theft from car cases, whereby the suspect would target parked vehicles, forcibly gain entry, getting away with valuables ranging from cell phones, laptops and cash,” Muteweri said.
“His luck ran out on 22 February 2026 when detectives from CID got information linking him to a theft from car case that occurred on 21 February 2026 in which the suspect broke into one of the victim’s vehicle and got away with cash.”
Muteweri said follow-ups were made leading to Moyo’s arrest and the subsequent recovery of a hydraulic jack, cell phones, various clothing and sub-woofers, amongst other valuables.
“The suspect is now clearing a total of 20 theft car cases and the recovered property has since been positively identified by their owners,” said Muteweri.
Muteweri thanked the Beitbridge community for helping police with information that led to the suspect’s arrest.
