Mnangagwa redeploys Muswere, Soda, Mavima in surprise reshuffle

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has removed Jenfan Muswere as Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister and redeployed him into the less influential Skills Audit and Development in which he serves in the same capacity.

In his place comes Zhemu Soda, who has been serving as Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities.

The mini cabinet reshuffle, announced Wednesday through an official government press statement issued by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Martin Rushwaya, also sees Paul Mavima reassigned to head the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities, moving from the Skills Audit and Development portfolio.

There were no reasons given for the changes, which take place “with immediate effect”, according to Rushwaya.

Mnangagwa has been reluctant over time to overhaul his cabinet, widely dismissed by critics as ineffective in a country battling massive poverty and a battered public infrastructure.

When he earned his second term as President in the 2023 elections, President Mnangagwa chose to keep his cabinet intact and his includes Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube, who lost his bid to become MP in a Bulawayo constituency.
