Fifty-five people who were onboard a Fokker 50 passenger jet were lucky to survive on Tuesday after the plane overshot a Somali airport runway and crash-landed on the sea shores of Mogadishu.

The pilot was praised for quick thinking and his dexterity to guide the aircraft to safety under difficult conditions.
