By Auther Chimbgwa

Five unknown suspects stormed a fuel station in Harare’s Workington area where they blew a safe open before they disappeared with US$1 260 cash and a CCTV memory box Thursday.

Confirming the burglary, police spokesperson for Harare Province Inspector Luckmore Chakanza said the incident happened on 5 February 2026 at 3.30 am.

He said fuel attendant Lovemore Bonyongwe “was awakened by a sound of the French door which was being broken and heard male voices talking inside the building enquiring about the safe”.

“Bonongwe reportedly pressed the panic button and a few minutes later, he heard the suspects breaking into the safe room.

“After that, he heard the blasting sound from the safe room after which the suspects disappeared.”

The crime was reported to Mbare police who attended the scene together with CID Homicide.

The total value stolen was US$1 260. Nothing was recovered.

No arrests were made.
