A Kwekwe man was attacked and dragged into the water by a crocodile as he tried to cross Mbembeswani River in the small gold rich city recently.
Confirming the incident, police spokesperson for Midlands Province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko identified the victim as Tichaona Muguti, whose age was not given.
“A man was attacked by a crocodile in Mbembeswani River, Mbizo in Kwekwe on 26 January 2026 at about 6pm,” said Inspector Mahoko in a statement.
“The man was at the time identified as Tichaona Muguti (with no further particulars known) who was employed by Kingten Mine in Kwekwe.”
On he fateful day, Muguti was accompanied by another man, Trust Ngwenya (24), of Makaure Business Centre.
As they were midway into the water, a crocodile emerged and attacked Muguti who was in front and submerged him in the water.
Ngwenya tried to seek help from other men who were nearby, but nothing could be done to save Muguti, who has not been seen again since the attack by the feared man eater.
Searches were instituted by the Parks and Wildlife Management Authority and the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Sub-aqua Unit to no avail.
