A Harare security guard died of suspected high blood pressure (hypertension), some moments after complaining of shortness of breath and dizziness during the course of duty.

Confirming the sad incident, police spokesperson for Harare Province Inspector Luckmore Chakanza identified the Real Star Security guard and Domboshava resident as Farai Mugova (49).

“On the 8th of January 2026 at around 5pm, Mugova was on duty at Real State Security in Eastlea when he complained of shortness of breath and dizziness after attending a parade,’ said Inspector Chakanza.

“But whilst the police would not like to hasten to point out the cause of the death, what is important to note is that Nifedipine 20g pills were found in his pockets, suggesting that he might have succumbed to high blood pressure.”

A manager at Real State Security called an ambulance to ferry him to hospital.

The ambulance crew suspected Mugova’s death upon arrival.

The incident was reported at Fife Avenue Police base, whose officers attended the scene.

He was conveyed to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

A post-mortem is set to be conducted to ascertain the real cause of Mugova’s death.
