Harare police detective collapses, dies while playing social soccer
Post-mortem set to establish mystery death of cop with no ailment history

A Harare police detective collapsed and died while playing football with his workmates on Wednesday, a day designated as sports day for members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
Police spokesperson for Harare Province Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the unfortunate incident and identified the deceased as Detective Constable Farai Tabara (41) who lived in Waterfalls.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) would like to confirm the sudden death of Detective Constable Farai Tabara on the 7th of January 2026 at around 6pm … who collapsed and died whilst playing soccer with his workmates at Huku Grounds in Hillside,” said Inspector Chakanza in a statement.
Chakanza said the junior officer was rushed to Mkushi Camp Clinic by his superiors where he was pronounced dead.
Tabara had no history of illness, according to the police spokesperson.
The body of the deceased was conveyed to a local funeral parlour while a postmortem was set to be eld to establish the real cause of his death.
