In a horrifying case of murder, a Harare woman fatally stabbed her husband three times on Wednesday following a quarrel over her late preparation of supper, police said Thursday.

In a statement, police spokesperson for Harare Province Inspector Luckmore Chakanza identified the now deceased as Levy Mautsa, a resident of Glen Norah suburb.

His age was not given.

“On the 24th of December 2025 at around 2.30 am, Mautsa and his wife, whose full name is still yet to be supplied to police, had a domestic dispute over her late preparation of supper,” said Inspector Chakanza.

“It is alleged that Mautsa assaulted the suspect using open hands and damaged her cell phone.

“The informant to the case, Blessing Chengeti, who is also their landlord, restrained the two who were fighting outside their room near his door, and they went back into their room.”

Chakanza further said at around 10 am, Chengeti was called by one Blessing Chitima, who resides in Glen View 8, asking him to check on Mautsa.

This was after the suspect had reportedly revealed to Chitima that she had stabbed Mautsa three times with a kitchen knife during a fight.

Chengeti, police said, went on to open his tenants’ door to investigate the incident only to discover the horror.

Mautsa’s lifeless body was in a sitting position, his head facing downwards inside a 10-litre-bucket containing blood and a pair of shoes.

He immediately informed the police at Glen Norah police station.

Officers at the same station together with CID Homicide and Scenes of Crime attended the crime scene.

“At the scene, it was observed that the now deceased was wearing an off-white blood-stained t-shirt,” said Chakanza.

“Inside the room were blood stains on the floor.

“The now deceased had deep cuts on the left shoulder, neck and back.

“A kitchen knife was recovered from the garden outside the house and is being held as an exhibit.”

The now deceased’s body was conveyed to Sally Mugabe Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Chakanza appealed for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect.
