Premier Soccer League confirms relegation of 4 teams

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed abandoning its bid to increase the number of teams participating in the country’s topflight league from 18 to 22 after the controversial plan was flagged as unreasonable by ZIFA.
This follows the publication of the 2026 league fixtures by the country’s football governing body on Friday.
Towards the end of last season, PSL resolved to increase the number of teams from 18 to 22 starting in 2026 after clubs unanimously voted for an expanded league.
However, ZIFA later rescinded the decision saying four teams were indeed going to be relegated.
In a statement, ZIFA said that “promotion and relegation are fundamental components of football competition and are essential to maintaining the integrity, fairness and sporting merit of the league system”.
Observers said the move was designed to save traditional giants Dynamos and Highlanders who were staring relegation in the face, but later survived.
The two teams survived on the last day of the season and ended tied on 39 points – just above the relegation zone.
