A 40-year-old Harare man’s body was found floating in Blue Dam, Harare, with wounds on the mouth and both ears, after he had gone missing from between 15 and 18 November 2025.

Acting police spokesperson for Harare Province Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Petro Mhakiwa, who lived in Rugare.

“On 15 November 2025 at around 7am, the now deceased went to his workplace in Southerton, but did not return home that day,” Mapisa said.

“In a sense of panic, his young brother, one Stephen Mhakiwa, made a report of a Missing Person on 16 November 2025 at Southerton police station.”

But on 18 November at around 11 am, Stephen overheard people talking about a dead body seen floating in Blue Dam in Kambuzama suburb.

Stephen went and discovered the body was that of his missing brother.

He immediately contacted his relatives and also filed a report at Warren Park police station.

The scene was attended by detectives from CID Homicide, CID Studios and officers from the police Sub Aqua Unit, who retrieved the body from the dam.

The deceased was wearing a black jacket, brown trousers, a black t-shirt and black shoes.

In its pockets were some house keys, a Huawei cellphone, US$25, Itel power bank and ZWG$110.

Mapisa said police have since opened an investigation into the case.
