A 36-year-old Zvishavane man is battling for life in hospital after he was stabbed on the forehead, stomach and chest with a homemade knife on Saturday by two brothers who were allegedly trying to settle old scores.

Police spokesperson for the Midlands Province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the case of attempted murder and identified the suspects as brothers, Fortunate and Edmore Moyo.

The incident happened on Saturday at around 10pm when Sydney Mujinga of Village Msiza, Chief Mafala, was on his way to Ndinaneni Business Centre.

“Along the way, he met the suspects Fortunate Moyo, a male aged 25 years and Edmore Moyo aged 36 years, both of Village Msiza, Chief Mafala in Zvishavane.

“The suspects stabbed him on the forehead, stomach and chest with a homemade knife after a misunderstanding over previous grudges,” Mahoko said in a statement.

Mujinga fell down shouting for help whilst the assailants ran away and vanished into the darkness.

He was saved by passers-by who ferried him to Zvishavane District Hospital where his condition was said to be serious.

Preliminary investigations by the police led to the arrest of Edmore Moyo.

“Fortunate is still on the run and we kindly request for assistance from the public for police to locate him,” said Mahoko.
