ELSEWHERE: Killer driver turns self in after running over pedestrian

Two people died on Saturday when a truck lost two of its wheels while in motion and overturned in a road traffic accident that happened in Shurugwi.

In a statement, Midlands Province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the freak accident which also left two more passengers injured.

“The accident occurred along Gweru-Zvishavane road on 18 October 2025 at around 8:30 pm,” said Mahoko.

“Nyasha Hove, a male aged 23 years who hails from Zvishavane was driving a Foton Power truck, white in colour, along Gweru–Zvishavane road. He was carrying four passengers in the truck.

“Upon reaching the 55 kilometre peg, two of the truck’s rear wheels dislodged. It veered off the road and overturned, falling and resting on its right side and injuring all passengers in the process.”

However, Dennis Ndlovu (38) and Tinashe Urayai (23) of village 3 Mponda Shurugwi later died upon admission at Shurugwi District Hospital.

Mahoko added, “Police are appealing to drivers to ensure that their vehicles are road worthy, exercise maximum caution and adhere to road traffic regulations when driving.”

In another incident in Gweru, a motorist turned himself in after he ran over and killed a pedestrian and in Mkoba 14 on Sunday night.

The victim, 36-year-old Progress Murandare, died on the spot and “was found lying along Chilimanzi road near Nazarene Church in Mkoba 14, Gweru after being allegedly run over by Frank Rungwe”.

Rungwe, aged 30, of Mkoba 20 in Gweru, was driving a Nissan Note motor vehicle.

He did not stop after the accident, Mahoko said.

Murandure’s body was later conveyed to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary where a post-mortem was set to be conducted.

On Monday morning, Rungwe surrendered himself to Gweru Traffic section.

Investigations are in progress.
