A 29-year-old Harare man allegedly raped his 17-year-old maid after she had rejected his bid to lure her to bed through promises to offer her US$5 if she consented to the act.
The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon when the teenager and the suspect were both at home in Msasa, Harare, where they reside in a three-roomed backyard apartment.
The suspect’s wife had gone to work at the time.
Police spokesperson for Harare Province Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed that officers were investigating the alleged incident by the suspect Tanaka Gunda.
“The juvenile, who works as a maid to the suspect and his wife, went to the main bedroom where the suspect was sleeping intending to take the baby of the couple’s clothes off so that she could change her after bathing her.
“The suspect then allegedly asked the minor to have sexual intercourse with him and promised to give her $5,” said Chakanza.
The minor turned his proposal down.
Gunda is alleged to have lifted the teenager to the spare bedroom and placed her on the bed before stripping her pant and skin tight off.
“The suspect then removed his trousers to knee level and forcibly inserted his erect penis into the minor’s vagina,” said Chakanza, adding that the suspect allegedly had unprotected sex once with the minor without her consent.
After the act, Gunda is said to have left for the city centre, allowing the minor to sneak out of the house.
She narrated her ordeal to a female vendor outside who informed police at Rhodesville about the incident.
Gunda was arrested and was set to appear in court facing rape.
The minor was escorted to Parirenyatwa Hospital by a police officer for medical examination.
