Man found dead with deep cuts, deformed face

A 39-year-old man was on Thursday found dead in Epworth, Harare with his body showing multiple injuries which included cuts and a deformed face.

In a statement on Thursday, police spokesperson for Harare province Inspector Luckmore Chakanza identified the victim as Josphat Chaurura, a resident of Epworth.

Police were informed of the incident by Elias Tsime, a nephew to Chaurura.

Chakanza said that on 7 August 2025 at around 6 am, Tsime was on his way to work intending to board a commuter omnibus at Rueben turn off when he saw a group of people gathered and became curious to find out what was happening only to notice that there was a lifeless body of a man.

“Upon closer examination, he discovered that the lifeless body was his uncle whom he last saw on the 5th of August 2025 at Rueben shopping centre. He then went and reported the case at ZRP Epworth,” Chakanza said.

Police found the victim “lying about 10 metres from Chiremba road (Rueben turn off) facing downwards”.

Added Chakanza, “The deceased was wearing a grey t-shirt, green t-shirt, grey jacket, blue jacket, khaki trousers, khaki short, yellow mini brief and black stockings without shoes.

“It was also discovered that the body had the following injuries: swollen left eye, sharp deep cut just below the right eye and deformed right side of the face. A pool of blood was observed where the body was lying.”

Chaurura’s body was conveyed to Chitungwiza Hospital Mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
