A 52-year-old Mberengwa man is fighting for his life in a hospital after he was stabbed with a knife by a colleague for failing to return a machete which he had been tasked to sharpen last year.
Police spokesperson for Midlands province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the attempted murder, which happened on Wednesday at around 5.30PM at Costas Garage under Chief Bvute in Mberengwa.
The victim was named as Doubt Ncube and the suspect as Samuel Mpofu.
In a statement, Inspector Mahoko said the two were at Costas Garage when a misunderstanding ensued.
“The scuffle was about a machete that Ncube was allegedly given sometime in 2024 by Mpofu so that he could sharpen it for him but never returned it.
“Mpofu withdrew a knife and stabbed Ncube on the armpit before fleeing from the scene. Ncube is currently admitted at Mberengwa District Hospital in a serious condition,” Mahoko said, while appealing for information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.
