Man loses cash, pistol and live rounds to thieves in Gweru

A man lost a satchel containing US$1,300 in cash, a pistol, a loaded magazine and 30 loose rounds to thieves recently in Gweru.
Police spokesperson for Midlands Province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the theft, and named the victim as Tafadzwa Mutauriki (40).
Mutauriki had parked and locked his Nissan Vannette at a car wash to go and find some water.
He returned five minutes later to find his valuables gone.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched an investigation following theft of cash and a firearm, from a motor vehicle which was parked near Drive Inn, Gweru, on 15 July 2025 at about 3pm,” said Inspector Mahoko.
Mahoko urged members of the public to enhance security of their property to avoid cases of this nature.
“We also call upon those with information that may lead to the arrest of the culprits in this case to come forward and assist the ZRP in our investigation,” he added.
Meanwhile, in another incident, Inspector Mahoko said Leonard Tapfuma (42) of Mbizo extension, Kwekwe lost his Honda Aria to thieves.

Tapfuma had parked at a friend’s gate in the same suburb only to find it missing when he returned some time later.
“The ZRP is appealing for information that might lead to the recovery of a stolen motor vehicle and the arrest of the culprits involved,” Mahoko said.
The Honda Aria was stolen on 17 July 2025 at about 1am.
Inspector Mahoko appealed to anyone with information that may be useful in the investigation of this case to approach any police station or police officers they see on patrol.
The registration number of the car is AFI 8874.
