Dzukamanja brace inspires Scottland to victory over Highlanders

New signing Terrence Dzukamanja’s brace handed Scottland a well-deserved 2-1 victory over Highlanders in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Match Day 21 clash played at Rufaro stadium on Sunday.

Highlanders were first to find the net after 17 minutes through 19-year-old Mafious Chihweta who gently tapped in a Reason Sibanda assist, but Dzukamanja levelled the scores five minutes later.

Dzukamanja added his second after 68 minutes when he headed home a Walter Musona corner kick at the near post.

Highlanders thought they could at least snap a point when they were awarded a penalty kick after 72 minutes when Godknows Murwira pulled Sibanda down but Marvin Sibanda missed the resultant spot kick.

Bosso though have to thank their goalkeeper Reward Muza whose heroic saves denied Scottland a chance to increase their lead.

Scottland, with 37 points and in third place, remain in contention for the league title.

In Saturday’s matches, FC Platinum beat MWOS 2-0 to condemn them to their first defeat of the season at their beloved fortress – Ngoni stadium – in Norton.

The Punters, who led the league table for most of the first half of the season, were punctured by the platinum miners who are the only team yet to lose a match so far.

The Zvishavane based side are in sixth position on the league table, having amassed 31 points, but have two games in hand.

At Wadzanai stadium, log leaders Simba Bhora had no mercy for relegation threatened giants Dynamos who they beat 1-0.

The Shamva based side remain at the apex of the league table with 43 points, three more than second placed MWOS.

Green Fuel handed their coach Rodwell Dhlakama his first win in charge following a 2-0 derby triumph over Bikita Minerals at the Green Fuel Arena.

Chicken Inn eked out a 1-0 victory over ZPC Kariba at Luveve stadium while visitors Herentals College also ground out an identical 1-0 victory against Manica Diamonds at Sakubva stadium.

Caps United fought out a goalless draw with in-form TelOne at Rufaro stadium.

Bottom placed Kwekwe United lost 1-0 to Yadah in Gweru where Sheasham owners of Bata stadium briefly locked the gates in an industrial action over unpaid rentals by the financially troubled Kwekwe United. The match had to start 25 minutes late.

At Gibbo stadium, Triangle settled for a 1-1 stalemate with Ngezi Platinum Stars to complete Saturday’s goal rush.

Following the weekend fixtures, Kwekwe United remain sitting at the basement of the league table with a paltry nine points while Dynamos are firmly anchored on second from bottom, having attained 15 points only.

Triangle are third from bottom with 20 points.

Fading giants Highlanders and Caps United sit on number 8 and number 10, with 27 and 25 points respectively.
