By Sports Reporter

Highlanders has made an indirect rebuke of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) over alleged interference with the premiership giants’ affairs after officers from the dreaded anti-graft body made an unannounced visit to the club’s offices in Bulawayo on Thursday.

In a Friday statement, club chairman Kenneth Mhlophe said Highlanders stays true to FIFA statutes which frown at government interference in the operations of football entities.

Highlanders has been rocked by reports of alleged financial impropriety among some of its top managers, something that is unusual for a club that has earned admiration for running its affairs in an orderly manner.

Following the storm, the Highlanders boss said the club did not make any report to Zacc.

Mhlophe confirmed Zacc officials visited Highlanders offices on Thursday.

“… The Club would like to inform the Club’s stakeholders and bonafide members that; Highlanders Football Club has not made any report to ZACC, the Zimbabwe Republic Police{ZRP) or any other investigative body.

“The Club has effective administration processes that can deal with any issues of concern.

“As a member of the Premier Soccer League(PSL), an affiliate of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), under the auspices of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the club is committed to upholding the rules and regulations of FIFA and ensuring that governance and operations are free from external interference (Article 14: Independence of FIFA and its member associations and Article 19: Governing bodies and autonomy).

Mhlophe added, “Finally, the Club would like to assure the Club’s sponsors and other stakeholders that the information relating to them is safe and has not been contaminated.”
