Nyanga couple detained for killing teenage daughter

A 48-year-old Nyanga man and his wife have been arrested for fatally assaulting a 17-year-old girl who is a stepdaughter to the woman.

Police confirmed the arrest of Chakupiwa Kamupira and Maria Chibego (38) in connection with Rumbidzai Kamupira’ death.

The incident happened at Chimusasa Business Centre, Nyanga on Monday, according to police.

“Maria Chibego (38) who is the victim’s step mother, assaulted her with open hands and a switch after she did not sleep at home on 13 July 2025.

“The victim’s father, Chakupiwa Kamupira joined in and assaulted the victim with a switch. The victim died upon admission at a local clinic,” police said Tuesday their official X handle.
