Woman throws self under moving truck in daring suicide

Police say the unidentified woman died on the spot

A yet to be identified woman threw herself under a haulage truck and died on the spot in Gweru in a suspected suicide case.

Police spokesperson for the Midlands Province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident, which happened at the 276 kilometre peg along Harare-Bulawayo road, near Glow Service station in Gweru CBD on at around 2pm on 9 July.

The woman did not have any identification particulars on her, said the police spokesperson.

The haulage truck was being driven by Christopher Malunga (58), who resides in Kuwadzana, Harare.

“…Christopher Malunga was driving a haulage truck along Lobengula Street in Gweru and on approaching Glow Service station, it is alleged the woman threw herself under the truck in a suspected suicide and was run over by the rear wheels. She died on the spot,” Mahoko said.

The body of the woman was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary for postmortem.

Inspector Mahoko called on those missing a female relative to approach ZRP Gweru traffic to help in the identification of the body.
