A 21-year-old street dweller died upon admission at Parirenyatwa Hospital after being stabbed with a scissors in the Harare city centre by a homeless colleague.
The crime took place at the intersection of First Street and Robert Mugabe at around 5:30am on Tuesday, according to police spokesperson for Harare Province Inspector Luckmore Chakanza.
Chakanza identified the suspect as George Katiyo (26) who allegedly stabbed Clever Karumbwa in the abdomen with a pair of scissors.
He said Karumbwa was “sitting by the fire when he was approached by the accused person who intended to steal his money”.
“The complainant caught the accused person, they started quarrelling and the accused person produced a pair of scissors and stabbed the complainant once on the abdomen.
“The accused person, George Katiyo (26) tried to flee the crime scene but he was apprehended by other street kids who were present at the scene,” said Inspector Chakanza.
“They escorted him to Harare Central Police Station where initially a report of attempted murder was filed against him.”
Karumbwa later succumbed to his wounds at Parirenyetwa Hospital with the case now being treated as murder.
The suspect was set to appear in court on murder charges.
