A homeless Johanne Masowe church ‘prophet’ has been detained for murder after a 12-year-old boy he had put up with overnight was found murdered with a pair of scissors stuck in his neck.
Tapiwa Mukura (32) has admitted to killing Keith Anesu John in a gruesome murder in Eastview Phase 21, Ruwa.
The murder report was made to the police by Thomas John, who is a maternal grandfather to the slain minor.
Mukura, according to police spokesperson for Harare province Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, had asked for accommodation from Thomas John citing that he was too broke to afford his own.
They both attend the same (Johanne Masowe) church and had now been staying together for the past one and half months.
Chakanza said on 5 July 2025, the boy’s mother Fatima John left her son alone at home to attend a memorial service in Goromonzi.
Later during the day, she called John requesting him to let Mukura go and sleep at her home since the now deceased had been alone.
Later in the evening, the boy went to his grandfather’s home to collect Mukura..
On the following day at around 6 in the morning, Mukura reportedly went to John’s house claiming the boy had gone missing.
Both John and Mukura went back to the boy’s home and were joined in searching for the minor by two locals.
“During the search, they noticed a trail of blood on the ground from the door step,” Chakanza said.
“The trail indicated that something was pulled from the yard. They followed the trail which then led them to an unknown neighbor’s undeveloped yard.
“They found the body of the now deceased lying on the ground in between sweet potato ridges.”

Police detectives who were called to the scene observed the slain minor’s body lying on the ground facing upwards with the head covered with some soil.
“The deceased was wearing a blue jersey which had some blood stains, a pair of grey trousers and blue pant which were both dropped below knee level.
“A pair of scissors was stuck on the right side of the deceased’s neck. The deceased had a small cut on the right cheek.
“The now deceased’s scrotum was cut open but the testicles were not removed. In the now deceased’s bedroom, there was clear evidence that the house floor was mopped.
“A wet sheet which had been washed was on the bed with few blood stains. The accused person was interviewed and admitted to have killed the now deceased.
“He indicated that he wanted to sell the private parts to an unknown buyer.”
