Six people were arrested on Sunday after they tried to enter Rufaro stadium for the league clash between Scottland and Caps United using fake VVIP cards allegedly issued by a Premier Soccer League (PSL) imposter at a cost of US$150 each.

The fraud was discovered by ZPSL acting Chief Executive Officer, Rodwell Thabe at Rufaro stadium’s Gate Number 7 which admits Premier Soccer League entry for VVIP card holders.

Thabe discovered that some of the people who were entering the gate were using Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League fake VVIP Cards.

He then verified the suspected VVIP fake Cards with their records and discovered that they were not existing.

Six were arrested over the fraud.

They are Rugare Kaondera (54), Wilbert Zindoga (47), Timothy Nerudzo (50), Edith Mutambu (25), Charles Banda (37) and Fungai Chikonyora (53).

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the alleged fraud case.

“The complainant then called police officers who were on duty at Rufaro Stadium who arrested and escorted the six accused persons … to Mbare police station where they were detained for fraud,” Chakanza said.

Mutamba, according to police, was employed by Scottland FC as a statistician.

“It was established that the other five accused persons were given the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League fake VVIP Cards at a cost of US$150 each by Chikonyora,” Chakanza said.

The total value defrauded is yet to be established.

The recovered fake cards are being held by Mbare police as exhibit.
