A 32-year-old Harare man first blew snuff onto his younger brother’s wife before allegedly returning two hours later armed with a machete, catapult and knife to rape her in a violent way.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed receiving a report of the incident, which allegedly happened on 30 June 2025 at around 8pm at Better Bricks Compound in Harare.

The victim was reportedly alone at home when the alleged incident happened.

“On the same day around 8pm, the accused person came again and entered into complainant’s house holding a machete, catapult and knife.

“He forcibly pushed complainant onto the bed and he held her neck using open hands. The accused person then removed his trousers and pants, removed complainant’s underwear and had unprotected sexual intercourse with the complainant once without her consent,” Chakanza said.

The police spokesperson said the matter came to light on 4 July when the victim had a misunderstanding with her husband who suspected that she was cheating with his brother.

“The complainant then disclosed the matter to him and the following day she made a report at Marlborough police station,” said Inspector Chakanza.

“The scene was attended and the accused person was arrested and is detained at Marlborough police station.”

The victim was escorted to Parirenyatwa Hospital for medical examination.
