Pack of biscuits lures Grade 6 pupil to rape ordeal

By Auther Chimbgwa

A 12-year-old Grade 6 pupil was raped in Harare allegedly by a neighbour who had lured her to his house after promising to give her a packet of biscuits.

The incident, according to Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, happened on 28 June 2025 around 9pm in Harare’s Southlea Park suburb.

On the night of the alleged incident, Chakanza said, the girl went outside her home to relieve herself.

“She met the accused person at the back of the house who asked her to follow him to his house so that he would give her a gift.

“The complainant followed the accused person to his house where she was given a packet of biscuits.

“Afterwards, the accused person then asked to have sexual intercourse with the complainant but she refused. The accused person insisted to have sexual intercourse with her and he demanded his biscuits back.”

The girl is said to have failed to resist because she had eaten the biscuits and could not replace them.

“The accused person then ordered the complainant to lie down facing upwards and she complied. He then raped her once without protection.

“Afterwards the complainant went home where she told her mother (the informant) about the abuse in the following morning,” Inspector Chakanza said.

The matter was reported to Southlea Park police on 3 July 2025 with a medical examination of the minor done at Edith Opperman.

The suspect is still at large, police said.
