A 29-year-old woman employed as a maid in Chitungwiza suffered a violent rape and robbery ordeal at the hands of a man who had trailed and dragged her into a bush as she walked back to her employment at night.

Police spokesperson for Harare province Inspector Luckmore Chakanza told Zimstar News that the horror happened in a bushy area along Tumba road, Unit J in Chitungwiza on 30 June at around 8pm.

The woman was reportedly attacked after disembarking from a commuter omnibus in Zengeza 4 suburb while coming from Makoni bus terminus.

“She started walking along Tumba road towards Pathway School when she discovered that an unknown male adult was following her,” Chakanza said.

The offender, who has not been identified, approached and demanded money and all the woman’s belongings.

“The complainant told the accused that she had nothing and the accused person started assaulting complainant with open hands on the face and head.

“He pulled complainant to a nearby bush area and pushed her on to the ground.

“The accused person tore complainant’s blouse and removed her skirt and pant. The accused forcibly had unprotected sexual intercourse with the complainant.”

As if the rape was not enough, the offender took the woman’s handbag containing ZWG20 and a ZTE blade 45 cell phone.

He went on to tie the woman’s hands and legs with shoe laces, and left her lying on the ground.

“The complainant used her mouth to untie herself and she proceeded to her place of residence where she narrated the incident to her employer.”

A report was made at ZRP Zengeza on 3 July with some medical examination later conducted at Chitungwiza Central Hospital.

The total value stolen is US$45 and nothing was recovered.
