Senior cop cons woman of US$500 in false nursing enrolment promise

A senior police officer stationed at Glen View Police Station in Harare allegedly swindled a woman out of US$500 after false promises to secure enrolment for her daughter to train as a general nurse at Parirenyatwa School of Nursing.
Assistant Inspector Tashinga Mashiri (48), who is currently attached to ZRP Mukushi Academy’s (formerly known as Morris Depot) sports office, appeared before a magistrate at Rotten Row in Harare Wednesday facing fraud.
The complainant in the matter is Agnes Zambuko.

Allegations are that on 7 November 2024, Mashiri claimed he could assist her daughter to secure a place at Parirenyatwa School of Nursing and demanded US$200 for his services.
The money was sent to Mashiri through Ecocash mobile transfer.
Zambuko also sent her daughter’s details to Mashiri so that they could be captured at the school for shortlisting for interviews.
On 17 November 2024, Mashiri allegedly demanded a top-up of US$300 purportedly to speed up the process.
She visited Mashiri at his workplace at Mkushi Training Academy to hand him the money in cash.
Mashiri then assured the complainant her daughter was going to be enrolled for the course by the end of November 2024.
But in January 2025, Zambuko’s hopes of ever seeing her daughter become a nurse were shattered when she was never called for any interviews.
Her numerous attempts to recover her money all failed resulting in her deciding to report him to his superiors.
She subsequently filed a report at Glen View Police Station under RRB 6465546, leading to the arrest of the senior police officer.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed Mashiri’s arrest, adding that the ZRP will not harbour corrupt members in its ranks.
“As the ZRP, we don’t condone any acts of criminal activities among our members, and the long arm of the law will doubtlessly take its course on the member in question,” Nyathi said.
He added that apart from facing the music in the courts of laws, the police will institute internal disciplinary measures.
