By Auther Chimbgwa

A 36-year-old man succumbed to head injuries sustained from a vicious attack by two men following a night club quarrel in Mufakose, Harare.

The now deceased Antonio Bamu was drinking at Legends Night Club at around 2am on 22 May this year when he was attacked by one Malvern Mapako (28), according to police spokesperson for Harare province Inspector Luckmore Chakanza.

Mapako’s friend, whose identity is still unknown, joined in to assault Bamu, who escaped and locked himself in the bar’s toilet to avoid further attack.

The two used fists and open hands to assault Bamu several times.

Chakanza said the now deceased then called his brother, Joshua Leanard Murisi (35) who resides in Rugare, Harare informing him about what had transpired.

“Initially, a report of assault was filed at Marimba police station and no arrests were made as the accused persons were not located,” Chakanza said, adding that Bamu had no visible injuries apart from the swells on the mouth. He, however, complained of general body pains.

Bamu reportedly visited Sally Mugabe Hospital on the same day where he was treated and discharged.

He later consulted a private doctor when his condition deteriorated.

On 28 June 2025, Bamu suffered a stroke and was admitted at Sally Mugabe Hospital where he died the next day.

Doctors said Bamu died from hemorrhage (subdural hematoma), a condition linked to one month old history of trauma to his head.

Subdural Hematoma refers to a pool of blood between the brain and its outermost covering.

Police followed up on the incident, leading to Mapako’s arrest for murder.

He is set to appear before the courts of law.
