Cheya-inspired MWOS edge Highlanders to reclaim top spot

Salif Cheya struck in the 87th minute to thrust MWOS back to the summit of the log standings in a 1-0 victory over Highlanders at Barbourfields in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Match Day 18 played on Sunday.

Cheya, who scored in the reverse fixture in March to condemn Highlanders to an identical 1-0 scoreline, returned to haunt Bosso once again when predictions of a stalemate were slowly beginning to gain credibility.

Earlier, lethal striker Billy Veremu appeared to have put the Punters in front after 32 minutes, but was unlucky when his effort was controversially ruled out for foul play when it looked like a 50-50 affair with his marker.

In another match played same day, Caps United once again stuttered when they were involved in a goalless draw with Green Fuel.

Scottland were also held to a goalless draw by Triangle at Gibbo stadium in the other game of the day.

In Saturday’s matches, FC Platinum preserved their unbeaten run when they drew 1-1 with Simba Bhora in a thrilling match at Mandava stadium in Zvishavane.

Playing his last game for FC Platinum before departing for South Africa, Thando Ngwenya struck from close range to give his team a lead that was, however, cancelled by a 10-men Simba Bhora.

Dynamos were held to a goalless draw by ZPC Kariba, and are now second from bottom with just 15 points collected from 18 games played.

TelOne were held to a goalless draw by Herentals College at Ascot stadium in Gweru.

Yadah beat Manica Diamonds 1-0 at Heart stadium in Harare while Bikita Minerals also posted an identical 1-0 win against Chicken Inn at Gibbo stadium.

Ngezi Platinum hammered Kwekwe United 5-2 at Baobab stadium in Mhondoro-Ngezi to complete Saturday’s goal rush.
