Police say US$700,000 cash, gold ‘recovered’ after Mt Darwin bank robbery

In a surprise twist to the Mt Darwin bank robbery incident, police say US$700,000 cash reportedly snatched from the bank in a dramatic heist this week have been recovered.

In a post on their official X handle on Friday, police said the case initially reported as robbery was now being treated as attempted robbery.

“Reference is made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s post on its official X handle, dated 26th June 2025, regarding a reported bank robbery incident in Mt Darwin, in which USD 700,000 in cash and 2.4 kilogrammes of gold were allegedly stolen.

“Following further investigations, the case is now being treated as an attempted robbery, as all the cash and gold have since been recovered,” police said while promising to provide more details around the incident.
