Police in Harare have appealed for information that could lead to the identification of a man who was Wednesday found floating in Lona Dam in Stoneridge suburb.

The body of the man, who was estimated to have been in his 30s, was first discovered by a fisherman.

The matter was later reported to Southlea Park police.

Harare province police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the “suspected sudden death” incident, adding that there was no foul play suspected.

“I can confirm that on 25 June 2025, a report of a suspected case of sudden death by drowning was made at ZRP Southlea Park by the informant that he had seen a human like body floating in the middle of water in Lona Dam Stoneridge, Waterfalls,” said Inspector Chakanza.

Operatives from the Police Sub Aqua Unit retrieved the body on Thursday after visiting the scene of the mysterious incident accompanied by detectives from CID Homicide as well as Studios.

The body of the victim was taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital mortuary.

“No foul play is suspected as the deceased, whose body was retrieved by Sub Aqua, was searched and had no identification particulars. He is yet to be identified by his next of kin,” said Inspector Chakanza, while calling on families with a missing male relative to go and confirm if the deceased could be the family member.
