Man stuffs sand into teen’s mouth in daring night rape attempt
Jailed 18 years by a Nyamandlovu magistrate

A 24-year-old Nyamandlovu man broke into a home at night, dragged a 17-year-old girl from her sleep before stuffing sand into her mouth to stop her screams during a daring rape attempt.
A Nyamandlovu magistrates’ court heard that the girl was sleeping with her younger siblings when the offender seized and marched her outside while threatening to kill her if she resisted his demands for sex.
The offender from Igusi, Nyamandlovu had unlawfully entered the victims’ home around 11.30pm on the 19th of June 2025 in an attempt to rape her.
“The victim fought back, scratched his face, and alerted her younger sister to get help. The offender ran away and the neighbours responded to her for help,” said the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) on their X handle.
The neighbours tracked the spoor from the crime scene which led to the arrest of the offender.
For the crime, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison by a Nyamandlovu magistrate.
“Sexual violence is a serious crime – it destroys lives, families, and communities. Victims must be supported, not silenced or shamed. Community action matters – neighbours who respond can help save lives,” said NPAZ.
