Simba Bhora shoot to the top of the league table

As Highlanders return to winning ways

By Auther Chimbgwa

Simba Bhora have shot to the summit of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League standings following a hard fought 1-0 victory over Bikita Minerals in a Match Day 16 fixture played at Wadzanayi stadium Wednesday.

Ishmael Nyanhi’s strike in the 42nd minute was enough to earn the reigning champions the much-needed three points and make their intentions to retain the championship clearer.

The odds were always in favour of the Shamva based side who have never lost at home this season, and were itching to win this encounter to displace MWOS who led the league race for most of the time during the first half of the season.

However, MWOS have a chance to reclaim top spot should they win their own Match Day 16 fixture at home to a resurgent Caps United Thursday.

Meanwhile, in other matches played Wednesday, Highlanders finally remembered how to win when they dispatched Manica Diamonds 1-0 at Sakubva stadium.

Chicken Inn also edged a valiant Ngezi Platinum to a 1-0 scoreline at Luveve stadium.

Green Fuel held ambitious Scottland to a 2-2 stalemate at the Green Fuel Arena.

Elsewhere, Herentals College was involved in a goalless affair with FC Platinum at Rufaro stadium. This was FC Platinum’s 12th draw since the start of the current league campaign while the other four matches ended in victories.

The four-time in a row champions and MWOS are the only teams that remain unbeaten so far this season.

TelOne were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting ZPC Kariba United at Ascot stadium in Gweru.

Match Day 16 continues this Thursday with struggling Dynamos locking horns with Yadah at Rufaro stadium while Kwekwe United host fellow punchbags Triangle at Bata stadium.
