A 36-year-old Harare man offered US$1 to lure his 13-year-old niece into yet another act of sexual intercourse which she refused resulting in the offender forcibly undressing the minor and raping her twice without protection.

The Kuwadzana resident even tried to raise the amount to US$5 but still the juvenile turned it down.

Police spokesperson for Harare province, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed a rape report has been made against the offender.

According to Chakanza, sometime in July 2024, the minor was left in the custody of her aunt and the offender by her mother who had gone to South Africa for work.

The rape ordeal allegedly started in August 2024 on an unknown date when the minor’s aunt left her home with her husband, the offender, and the couple’s two minor children, aged 9 and 12.

While the girl played with her cousins outside the house, the offender summoned her into his bedroom and he closed the door behind her.

”The accused person undressed the complainant and forced her to lie on the bed facing upwards before fondling her breasts and proceeded to rape her twice without protection,” said Inspector Chakanza, adding that the offender threatened her with unspecified action if she reported the act to anyone.

The minor’s mother returned from South Africa sometime in December 2024 and the juvenile revealed the matter to her. She, however, did nothing about the matter until she returned to South Africa on 7 January 2025.

In February 2025, the juvenile’s aunt left home again leaving her in the custody of the offender.

The offender allegedly called the complainant into his bedroom and asked for sexual intercourse but the complainant refused.

He then “offered US$1 to the complainant but she refused to have sexual intercourse with him”, said Inspector Chakanza, adding that he raised the money to US$5, but the minor kept on refusing.

The juvenile tried to escape but the door was locked.

The offender then forcibly undressed the complainant and proceeded to rape her twice without protection. Again, he threatened her against reporting the matter to tell anyone.

In the same month of February this year, the offender tried to rape the complainant again but this time she managed to escape.

The girl’s mother returned from South Africa in June 2025 and she again revealed the matter to her.

Her mother finally reported the abuse to the police who opened a docket at ZRP Kuwadzana on 11 June 2025.

“We referred the complainant to Family Support Clinic for medical examinations,” said Inspector Chakanza.
