Chimombe, Mpofu’s Harare streetlights tender fraud charges withdrawn
Jailed business partners remain in remand prison over goat supply botch

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) on Wednesday withdrew fraud charges against jailed business partners Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu who were accused of fraudulently securing a US$9 million streetlighting tender from the Harare City Council.
The charges were withdrawn before plea.
State prosecutor Whisper Mabhaudi announced the withdrawal before High Court judge Benjamin Chikowero on Wednesday.
Mabhaudhi did not give reasons for the withdrawal.
Prosecutors alleged that the two submitted false information in order to win a streetlighting tender that had been floated by the Harare City Council.
After the awarding of the tender, it was further alleged, Mpofu signed official documents as managing director of the company, Juluka Enndo. Chimombe signed as a witness. The two then received US$260,000 as part payment.
Chimombe and Mpofu denied the charges.
