A 40-year-old Harare man has been remanded in custody following his arrest for letting his vicious dogs attack and kill a man who was walking along a road passing by the offender’s home weekend.

Mike Mupinga, who resides in New Bluffhill, Harare, is accused of acting negligently by leaving four of his dogs to scale the wall and bite the victim, Samuel Machara, repeatedly.

Mupinga was arraigned before the Harare magistrates’ court facing culpable homicide.

He was remanded in custody to 5 June, 2025 for bail ruling.

On the night of May 31 this year, according to prosecutors, Mupinga, who owns three pit bulls and one rottweiler, acted negligently by leaving them unmuzzled and at large in his rented yard.

“The yard is secured by a low brick and mortar perimeter wall and the accused went inside his house, leaving the dogs to roam.

“The dogs then scaled the wall and attacked Samuel Machara, who was walking on a nearby street,” the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said on their X handle.

Machara ultimately succumbed to deep wounds on his neck and lacerations on his hands, legs and stomach.
