Agitated fans rally call to restore Dynamos’ glory days amid more boycott clamours

By Auther Chimbgwa

A Dynamos fan representative group has called on club owner and board chairman Bernard Marriot Lusengo to employ deliberate steps aimed at restoring the once dominant football club onto its prosperous path while threatening to call for a prolonged boycott of the troubled giants’ home matches if their demands are not met.

At a press conference at Raylton Sports Club in Harare Thursday, acting Dynamos Supporters Association Harare Chapter chairman Benevolent Karigoka Vono said for the past 11 years, the fortunes of the club have been on a downward spiral due to poor management.

Vono said the Moses Mashinganidze executive at Dynamos was misleading Lusengo, adding that the controversial club co-founder should not be involved in the day-to-day running of the club, but should delegate responsibilities to those with the technical knowhow to discharge the tasks.

He also said as Dynamos fans, they respect Lusengo and do not harbour any wishes to take it away from him or see him step down.

“We want to see him as the owner and those in the running of the club to do the rightful thing,” Vono said, adding that Lusengo should only lead process aimed at restoring Dynamos to its former glory.

“The current Board and Executive have not met our expectations, and we have lost confidence in their direction. We call for an effective technical team and sound marketing strategies to elevate the Dynamos brand,” Vono said.

Joining in, other members of the association also accused the club’s leadership of paying sangomas to influence victories through supernatural means during matches involving the team as opposed to channelling the investment towards acquiring good players to match tough competition in the league.

“Football is a scientific game, and it does not require that the club pay sangomas in order to win,” one member said.

“Instead, the club should pay players and that way the club can play better on the field of play.”

Vono said, “Dynamos is more than a club; it represents our tradition and culture, and we deserve better”.

Dynamos currently lie third from bottom of the league table with a paltry nine points from a possible of 39, and have only scored four times and conceded 10.

The country’s most successful club judging by the number of league trophies collected since independence is a distant 18 points behind leaders MWOS with just 13 games played in a league of 34 rounds of fixtures.
