Dynamos, Caps United battle ends in stalemate

Familiar opponents Dynamos and Caps United fought out a 1-1 draw on Sunday in a thrilling Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Match Day 12 clash played in front of a sizable crowd at Rufaro stadium.

Emmanuel Jalai gave Dynamos the lead from an immaculately taken spot kick after 53 minutes, but Kundai Benyu’s ferocious strike from outside the penalty box after 67 minutes gave Ian Bakala’s men a share of the spoils.

With a section of Dynamos fans urging a match boycott to protest poor performance and alleged team mismanagement, the tone of the derby was different as both sets of players gave their all.

In other Match Day 12 encounters played Saturday, MWOS posted an impressive 4-0 defeat of Triangle, with Billy Veremu netting a memorable hattrick to help the Norton based newcomers cement their place at the top of the log standings.

Veremu goes level with TelOne’s lethal striker Washington Navaya as they both now have seven goals each.

In another match played same afternoon at Wadzanayi stadium, Simba Bhora also beat Kwekwe United 4-0 to maintain pressure on the log leaders.

Elsewhere, ZPC Kariba spoiled Highlanders’ resurgence with a 2-1 defeat of the visitors at Nyamhunga stadium.

Herentals College also beat Ngezi Platinum 1-0 at Rufaro stadium while Manica Diamonds settled for a 0-0 stalemate with visiting Scottland FC at Sakubva.

There were two identical 1-1 draws in matches played between FC Platinum and Bikita Minerals at Mandava as well as TelOne and Yadah at Bata stadium..

Chicken Inn were beaten 1-0 at Luveve by Green Fuel.

Following the weekend’s clashes, MWOS lead the pack on 26 points. They are followed by Scottland, at 23 points. Champions Simba Bhora are third on 22 whereas Herentals complete the current top four hierarchy with 19 points to their name.
