Chicken Inn striker Brighton Makopa fired four goals in the second half as the Bulawayo side produced a dramatic comeback in the second half to upstage financially troubled Kwekwe United in a six goal Premier Soccer League Match Day 11 thriller played at Bata stadium on Sunday.
Kwekwe United had raced to a two-goal lead, courtesy of first half strikes by Farai Mutatu and Mbongeni Minezhi, who scored from the penalty spot.
But Makopa produced an inspired second half display to become the first player to score four goals in a single match this season in a performance that saw him named man-of-the-match.
In another match, ailing giants Dynamos’ spirits hit their lowest ebb in the aftermath of a damaging 2-0 thrashing by now second from bottom side Triangle at Gibbo stadium to confirm the once dominant side’s worst starts to a football season in many years.
Triangle struck in the 7th and 68th minute to seal a remarkable victory over their troubled opponents. The victory saw the Sugar Sugar Boys swap places with Kwekwe United, who now occupy the basement of the league table.
Triangle are now second from bottom with eight points to their name. They have the same number of points as Dynamos who however are third from bottom by virtue of a superior goal difference.
Elsewhere, Scottland remain second from the top after walloping Simba Bhora 2-0 at Rufaro stadium to collect all the three points for the Scott Sakupwanya owned side. Crowd attendance however did not match a top of the table clash as few people occupied the terraces as the business mogul reportedly failed to bus fans to the stadium.
There was a stalemate at Barbourfields stadium as Mason Mushore’s early 7th minute strike for Highlanders was cancelled out by a 23th minute goal by FC Platinum’s Devine Mhindirira. Bosso scored through the first attack that they carved out, but frittered away several scoring opportunities during the course of the game.
In Match Day 11 clashes on Saturday, MWOS played out a 2-2 draw with TelOne in Norton to maintain their unbeaten record.
TelOne had led 2-0 but Innocent Zambezi pulled one back for MWOS in the second half. Leading goal scorer Washington Navaya missed a penalty in the second half which could have given TelOne a commanding 3-1 lead at the time. But a bizarre decision to show two TelOne players red cards by the referee saw a nine men side crumbling like a deck of cards as MWOS found the equaliser in the 89th minute to salvage a draw for the Norton based side.
At Rufaro stadium, new Caps United gaffer Ian Bakala’s return to the Green Machine ended with his side settling for a battling 1-1 draw against Herentals College, who scored late in the game for the leveller.
Ngezi Platinum also fought out a 2-2 draw with visiting ZPC Kariba at Baobab stadium in Mhondoro-Ngezi while Bikita Minerals and Yadah FC settled for a 1-1 stalemate at Sakubva stadium.
Green Fuel also played out a drab 0-0 draw against Manica Diamonds at the Green Fuel Arena to complete Saturday’s goal rush.
Following Match Day 11 fixtures, MWOS still lead the pack with 23 points while Scottland breathe down their necks with 22.
Reigning champions Simba Bhora remain third on 19 points while giants Highlanders are fourth having garnered 18 points so far.
Fading giants Caps United occupy the 13th spot and have nine points while Dynamos sunk further into the morass to the 16th spot on the log standings with eight points only.
