63 police detectives undergo skills training on tackling cyber crime, robberies

Sixty-three Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) detectives have gone through a skills developmental training course aimed at sharpening their competencies in combating sophisticated cyber crime and the high incidence of car theft and robberies.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Crack Teams Intermediate Investigations course initiated by Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba involved sharpening skills on tracking, conduct responses and investigations of high profile cases such as armed robbery, murder, theft of motor vehicles, cyber crime, according to a Wednesday statement by the ZRP.

Officiating at the closing ceremony of the training course at Shamva Battle Camp, when he officially closed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Crack Teams Intermediate Investigations course, according to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)’s official X handle.

“The ZRP has intensified the capacitation and skills development of CID Crack teams in the fight against armed robbery, theft of motor vehicles, murder and other criminal acts in the country,” police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Wednesday.

Nyathi added that, “The Commissioner-General of Police has taken it upon himself to improve the protocols, tactical preparedness and overall capability of the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s specialised units which are tasked with performing high-risk duties such as tracking armed robbery syndicates.”

In his address, Nyathi said, “Commissioner-General Mutamba made it clear that the Zimbabwe Republic Police has now embraced the use of technology in attending and responding to scenes of crime and investigations.”

All the trained detectives were later presented with the “latest tablets to each CID Crack Team member to aid in the investigations of specialized cases which include robbery, theft of motor vehicles and murder cases”.

“The training of CID specialized crack teams dovetails with other training workshops for both junior and senior officers which the Zimbabwe Republic Police Command is currently undertaking throughout the country to improve policing capabilities and performance at all levels.

“The Commissioner General of Police also urged the Police detectives to follow the dictates of the Constitution and observe the fundamental rules on the use of firearms,” Nyathi said.
